Mobile Ojisan

Akihabara gone maniac

Yes, I'm talking about Akiba's newest obsession, those perversive Maid Cafes. New ones are popping up every 3 minutes recently, just like the mushrooms after autumn drizzling.

Step into one of them. Young and pretty girls in kinky French maid attire whisper to you: "O honorable master, welcome back again..." Irasshai-mase, go-shujin-sama!

An idealized sanitized version of Maid Cafe
In one of the real Maid Cafes. The French maid costume in action, ready to crunch the hapless Master... er... customer.

Why so suddenly?: Ojisan is totally baffled.

Evil phantasy?: Something to do with the total lack of maids/nannies/amahs/ayahs in Japanese society? Maybe, Akiba cruisers (exclusively young or youngish males) hide a secret phantasy in their innards. Of somehow an easy male dominance which exists only in the virtual reality. A legend of master-servant order.

So, this must be an exclusive Japanese obsession. Where maids are readily available for a song, and verbally/physically abused with impunity, absolutely no need for a Maid Cafe. Reality massacres phantasy, I think.

Noooo! Don't pinch their derrieres! Bouncer will throw you down from the 10th floor window.

Are you curious? But you can't muster enough courage to plunge into this Akiba perversion? Oh, no worry. There will be a special guided bus tour to cruise some of these Maid Cafes. Bunch up, and y' all can move a mountain!

Contact: Akiba Beginners Rescue Tour (Akiba Shoshin-sha Kyusai Tour)
Date: February 4 (Saturday), 2006. 10am starting from Shinjuku station, Tokyo
Charge: 5,800 yen (US$48)
Included: Lunch, beverage at Maid Cafe

About Matsushita Shuji

When he is not investigating (and buying) the latest gadgets, Matsushita Shuji is a retired professor of African linguistics from the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. He is also occasionally known as a mobile ojisan, though he will deny this vehemently.
