Remote your mobile life

Edvarcl Heng  |  Jun 29, 2006

The iPod Radio remote was a dumb idea. Why have a remote that comes without a display? Remember the days of the portable cassette and CD player? We practically lived on the blue backlit screens of our in-line remotes. Remote connoisseurs pride themselves on being able to spot a Sony from the other end of a bus stop.

30GB worth of songs? No problem. No call to pull your iPod out from the snug corner it has made for itself in your bag. Just ask cousin remote for the song title that's playing. But do note, since the Pivot iTrans M50 is a fifth cousin twice removed, the only thing you can do with it is simple playback controls. No navigating through the iPod menu here. Available in July. Price unknown. More info here

The devil sires an anti-pod

Edvarcl Heng  |  Jun 14, 2006

If your nano intends to tag along for John Moore's The Omen, make it look the part of Damien Thorn's iPod by decking it out in a Diablo suit. Complete with stag horns and a wicked-looking tail, this costume will make your nano look flat-out diabolical. Envy, pride or lust? This baby has three of the seven deadly sins all wrapped up in its curly little tail. More info here

Mozart for junior?

Edvarcl Heng  |  Jun 14, 2006

The Tamagotchi is back and the addictive virtual pet has sprouted some ears. Now you not only have to feed it, but you got to play the kid some decent tunes as well. Built into a 2.2-inch Otoizm are 30 different characters and how each one behaves will depend on the music you feed it. And the little tyke ain't just a listener, he's a composer. But if his music is a little too melancholic, he's probably lonely. Go pair up two Otoizm together and watch junior dance up a storm in Para Para. 3,360 yen (US$29.10). More info here

Musical hit and run

Edvarcl Heng  |  Jun 12, 2006

The Vinyl Killer has got to be the smallest record player on record. Chuck the antsy turntable already and get some groovy spin going. With a needle situated beneath the undercarriage, this beatbox baby comes with a built-in speaker and a motor to drive it on the vinyl highway. Cruising at a speed of 33rpm, this Swaroski crystal-encrusted Volkswagon certainly won't win any races. But for portable vinyl entertainment, this set of wheels is da bomb. More info here

Don't jog with your pod

Edvarcl Heng  |  Jun 12, 2006

So says a professor for mechanical and aerospace engineering from the University of Florida. In a word of advice to owners of hard drive-based iPods, the jarring impact of concrete pounding can effectively wear down the moveable components of the iPod's hard drive mechanism. Not to mention your knees. In short, your iPod will fizzle out before its time. Take heed and get a flash-based nano. It's a gym rat's best friend. More info here
