Teenagers like to share music, probably with the assumption that everyone likes the same kind they listen to. On public transport, they share it with complete strangers (whether you like it or not) using mobile phones with speakers. If you don't have your own headphones to block them out, here's a concept that might work--a credit card-sized pair of earplugs.
Designer Shing Lo has
conceived a pair of earplugs with a snap-off design, much like your model kits. Because rubber is flexible, you can even keep the earplugs back into the card to store for future use. This can then be left in your wallet, ready to deploy whenever needed. It's a concept for now, so don't go running out to shops looking for one.
